What My Heart Craves Now: Authenticity

Someone asked me recently,

“What does your heart crave now?”

I smiled.

The answer is very different today than it would have been years ago.

  • A life that feels safe.

  • A love that feels mutual.

  • A peace I never have to force or beg for.

Not a life without risk. Not a love without vulnerability. Not a life without difficult days.

Just one where I no longer mistake chaos for passion, uncertainty for chemistry, or anxiety for love.

I’ve spent enough of my life chasing things, people, outcomes, validation, the next experience, the next feeling, and sometimes losing myself in the process. Becoming so invested in another person that I forgot to remain rooted in who I am.

These days, my heart craves something quieter.

  • Reciprocity.

  • Consistency.

  • Presence.

  • Trust.

  • Authenticity.

  • Peace.

The freedom to show up exactly as I am, not carefully edited, not performing, not trying to become who I think someone needs me to be.

To be known rather than merely liked, and to offer that same freedom in return.

I’m also learning that authenticity doesn’t require giving all of myself away at once.

I can be open without abandoning discernment. Vulnerable without losing my boundaries. Deeply connected to someone without losing my connection to myself.

Maybe that’s what real intimacy actually is. Not two people trying to impress each other, convince each other, or rush toward some imagined future.

Just two people feeling safe enough to stop performing and courageous enough to let things unfold at their own pace.

  • Words and actions agreeing.

  • Boundaries being respected.

  • Neither person having to chase what the other isn’t freely giving.

And perhaps that’s the biggest change of all.

I’m learning that safety isn’t something another person gives me. It begins with becoming someone I can trust.

  • Trusting myself to listen when something feels wrong.

  • Trusting myself to speak when something matters.

  • Trusting myself to respect another person’s boundaries, and my own.

  • And trusting myself enough to let something beautiful develop without needing to know where it will lead.

So what does my heart crave now?

  • A life that feels safe.

  • A love that feels mutual.

  • The freedom to be completely myself.

  • And a peace that already lives within me.

Everything else can meet me there.
